The COVID-19 pandemic is spreading like wildfire in India. As the crisis continues, hospitals are running out of beds and oxygen. Crematoria are overcrowded with dead bodies. Those trying to seek medical attention for a sick family member are desperate to find a hospital that’s accepting patients. It’s not uncommon to see people desperately gasping for air in need of medical attention outside of a hospital, or worse dying while waiting for treatment. If and when a bed does become available it’s a grim reminder that yet another person has died.
Each day India is breaking bleak global pandemic records. Desperation is increasing and with the movement of people, corona is now spreading to rural areas as well. If the pandemic spreads to rural areas it will be catastrophic.
As a registered Canadian charity for the past fifteen years Vivek Canada has been working with villagers in rural and remote areas. These villagers are currently in lock down and unfortunately 1-2 deaths a day are being reported. The nearest hospital is 25km away. With the devastation unfolding in India, we would like to help the rural areas in preventing the spread of the virus.
As many of us in the diaspora are looking for ways to help, we humbly ask you to join us in raising funds to provide:
- Medical supplies
- Oxygen concentrators to the nearest hospital
- Kits containing masks and hand sanitizer to families
- Food supplies to those unable to work and/or leave their homes
